If I had to buy new microphone cable for recording or live performance, I would get any of the Mogami Silver Series cables available today. There are a few other brands we also like (discussed below), but even if they were all available to me and I had to pick one, Mogami is the one to get. In fact, stick with any of the brands mentioned below and you'll never have a bad cable.
All of the Mogami products have treated me well. This cable in particular is always the one I order when I need new cables. It has great reviews stretching all the way back to 2007, and my experience with them is no different.
Your cabling in your studio or live setup can be one of the biggest hindrances to productivity if you don’t choose wisely.
A great microphone cable will be reliable (i.e. works well for a long time), the connectors will also be reliable (i.e. the connectors don’t cut in and out). Many of the cheaper cables have molded plastic connectors and thin wiring, which makes them difficult to fix if they start to cut out. We like cables with connectors that unscrew so they are easily fixable. (We like to build/fix our own cables, but you don’t have to, obviously.)
Microphone cables are. I polled several working musicians and asked what their experience was with various brands, as well as my experience building cables.
Microphone cables can cost anywhere between $5 – $100. When you move down the scale to cheaper cables, they often fall apart. When you move up the scale – generally anything for home studio use you don’t want to pay more than $30-35. Anything over that is kind of a rip-off.
Mogami has great quality control, and never have I had a bad cable from them.
There are a few other brands we like. They run the gamut pricing-wise, but if you stick with these brands you’ll never have a bad cable:
If you stick with those three brands you’ll never have a bad cable.

“It’s not so much the equipment as how you use it. I’ve heard people with really cheap studios do great recordings.” —Frank Gambale
